11 Things You Should know when Planning a Wedding Day
Wedding planning can be quite an adventure! There are so many things to consider, from the venue and guest list to the dress, decorations, and catering. Here are some steps to help you get started:
- Set a Budget: Determine how much you can afford to spend on your wedding. This will guide all your decisions moving forward. Many brides are surprised and even shocked at the cost of a wedding ceremony and reception.
- Create a Timeline: Set a date for your wedding and create a timeline of tasks leading up to the big day. This will help you stay organized and on track.
- Choose a Venue: Decide on the type of venue you want for your ceremony and reception. Consider factors like location, capacity, and ambiance. This should be your first stop on your wedding planning adventure. The most popular venues book very quickly.
- Compile a Guest List: Create a list of everyone you want to invite to your wedding. This will help you determine the size of the venue you need and estimate costs for catering. Regarding the guest list, be mindful again of the cost. On average, each guest costs about $50 for the meal. Serving your guests a plated meal versus a buffet saves you between 15-20% in meal costs.
- Select Vendors: Research and book vendors such as photographers, caterers, florists, and musicians or DJs. Make sure to read reviews and ask for recommendations. Be sure to meet each of your vendors in person. Even if the individual is recommended by a close friend, please meet with them prior to placing your deposit.
- Pick a Theme or Style: Decide on the overall theme or style for your wedding, which will guide decisions about decorations, attire, and more.
- Choose Attire: Shop for your wedding dress or suit, as well as attire for the wedding party. Don’t forget about accessories and alterations. Be mindful of the cost your bridesmaids and bridegrooms will have to pay to attend your wedding as well as their attire.
- Plan the Ceremony: Work with your officiant to plan the ceremony, including vows, readings, and any special rituals or traditions. As your DJ, I plan the ceremony down to each minute so that the reception does not run overtime thereby incurring late fee charges.
- Organize Decorations: Decide on decorations for both the ceremony and reception venues, including flowers, centerpieces, and lighting. Many decorations can be handmade, thereby saving some money.
- Finalize Details: As the wedding day approaches, finalize all the details, including the timeline, seating arrangements, and any last-minute adjustments.
- Enjoy Your Day!: On your wedding day, relax and enjoy the moment. Trust your planning and vendors to handle the logistics, and focus on celebrating with your loved ones.
Remember, wedding planning can be stressful at times, but it’s also an opportunity to create cherished memories with your partner and loved ones. Don’t forget to take breaks and enjoy the journey!
